Factors Affecting a website

Web engineering covers a wide range of disciplines and includes contributions from a variety of fields systems analysis and design, requirements engineering, software engineering, user interface, information engineering, information engineering, human-computer interaction, hypermedia/hypertext engineering and Testing, modelling and simulation, project management, and graphic design and presentation.

Maintenance: Even more than software maintenance, web maintenance is a continual process. Maintenance might be difficult depending on the nature of the application. Content management and site navigation are where the primary distinctions between Web applications and software maintenance emerge. Human resources may be in charge of assigning content-related duties. Web developers must specify how content maintenance should be performed and, more significantly, influence applicable regulations.

Steps to web development

In web development, there are seven major steps.

Information gathering

Most people do not give importance or time to this critical step during the process of web development. It is very important to gather information about the business for which the website is developed to find out if the design is perfect or not. You must understand your company's goal. Do you want to improve your brand or online visibility? Or are you willing to offer your products/services? Now, the target audience is observed, i.e., the target audience children or teenagers, adults, females or males? Find out the answers to all of these questions. All these questions are very important in the process of successful web development.

Planning

In this step, we can create sitemaps and wireframes. Based on the information gathered in the previous step, we can create sitemaps. The purpose of creating a sitemap is used to make a website more user-friendly. A Sitemap is a map in which the structure of a website is created and selected. Wireframes are created for the purpose of arranging elements to best accomplish a particular purpose. It provides a pictorial report on a website. You can choose which features and functions are required on a site, such as login, email subscription, message sending, admin, logout, and so on.

Design

Your website is in good shape at this point. Keep in mind that all the information gathered in the first step is necessary to design a website. The website is created according to the target audience. Because a website that is designed for an educational institute is different from a website designed for selling products or goods (shopping website). The primary function of the layout is to represent the information structure, visualize the content, and demonstrate the basic functionality. Layouts contain colors, logos, images and can give a general understanding of the future product.

Content Writing

At this step, we have to write the content on the site. Content must be charming or interactive to seek the attention of people. Modified content is uploaded to the website with main headings, subheadings, bullets, highlights, and other tags, etc., which helps people to find things according to their intent. Webmasters must update their content over time in order to increase traffic to their site. This allows the audience to search for new things on the website, such as products/services.

Coding

Now, you can create your own website. This website will be designed according to the graphic designs created already. First of all, the home page is made and then other new pages are created and linked to the home page. The website's structure should be according to the sitemap. After that, other special features and/or static web page factors should be created and checked. You must have deep information about web development technology for such a difficult phase.

Testing

It is the most important part. Webpages are verified before launching on the site to find and remove any bugs or errors. Check all forms, scripts, and remove all the grammar mistakes that occur in the content. Code validators can be used to test code and make sure it follows existing standards of web-development. In this step, the site is tested for the following things:

  • Cross-browser compatibility
  • Multiple screen tests

Maintenance

In this step, a website is maintained after it is launched on the world wide web. It is maintained to avoid further inconvenience. Working on feedback is very important for making changes according to your customers.

Every step is critical, but I believe the maintenance and design steps are more important than the others because the design of a website is what attracts customers. And upkeep is always necessary for a current website.
